All of Us Strangers

Maybe the national title won’t help, but All of Us Strangers was one of the most talked about films of 2023. In the original title, All Of Us Strangers is a powerful drama about an LGBT relationship between two neighbors in a lonely building. Andrew Scott is a writer/screenwriter who is committed to writing, but is plagued by an ability to revisit his dead parents. His life changes once and for all when he meets another young man in the building, played by Paul Mescal, which takes the boy out of his ‘imprisonment’. It was one of the most highly rated films to feature in the Oscarbut ended up being snubbed by the Academy.

Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story

Big release of the week, Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story is a documentary series of four episodes of approximately one hour each, aimed at telling the story of one of the most successful rock bands of all time: Bon Jovi. With participation from other giant names in music, such as Bruce Springsteenthe production follows the personal lives of the group’s members, shows the context of the time when the band emerged and the effects of ups and downs in their career.

SA Wishes

The partnership between the Star+ and national producers have been producing some very interesting results. One of them is the series SA Wishes, which unfolds in an anthology format, telling a different story throughout its six episodes. The premise of the series is to live in a world in which a suspicious company promises to fulfill any desire of its customer, as long as it is willing to be used to fulfill some unknown desire of other customers. From there, we followed six people with the most diverse types of requests doing complicated things.

Shogun: The Glorious Saga of Japan

Inspired by a bestseller, the series unfolds over 10 episodes to tell the story of a British sailor who is shipwrecked off the Japanese coast and comes across a deadly scenario of civil war. Amid samurai missions and political disputes, he ends up being used by Lord Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada), a leader who is fighting to become Shogun, the pinnacle of leadership in the region. The series is a spectacle for bringing the Japanese view of war and invasions, in addition to having a very high level of production.

How To Be a Carioca

Created by carioca Carlos Saldanha, the series is an adaptation of the book of the same name by an American woman who moved to Rio and was captivated by the city over the decades. Over the course of six episodes, the production shows five foreigners coming to the Marvelous City, each with their own countries and problems, and end up seeing the different realities of Rio, until the moment they understand or feel the city and resolve its issues. The only connection between them is a nice carioca played by Your Jorgewho appears almost like a guardian angel in their lives.
