Meteorology predicts more rain from Friday to Monday in RS

Whenever we show an illustration, like the one on the floor with the inscription “Warnings”, it means we want to draw your attention to an area with a lot of risk. In the case of this Friday (10), this risk is classified as extreme danger by our meteorologists due to the amount of rain predicted.

In the purple part of the map (see below), they believe it could rain more than 100 millimeters in some spots. Many cities in Serra Gaúcha are there.

There is also a second area that now appears, in red. It includes the region of Porto Alegre and part of the center and north of Rio Grande do Sul. In these stretches, there is also a forecast of storms. And rain could still reach the west of the state, regions close to the border with Argentina, but with smaller volumes, this Friday. There is also a forecast of heavy rain in the extreme south of Santa Catarina.

This Thursday (9), four federal agencies jointly published a technical note with the likelihood of problems in the coming days. These bodies are: National Institute for Space Research, National Institute of Meteorology, National Center for Risk and Disaster Management and National Center for Natural Disaster Monitoring and Alerts.

In their assessment, between Friday (10) and Monday (13), it is possible that there will be a landslide, especially in those areas in orange (see below).

And when the risk is of flooding, the condition can be worse. In much of the state, where the map (see below) is red, this risk is considered very high. It’s tall, in the orange part. And moderate, where it is yellow.

According to these federal bodies, the volume of water in the rivers could increase until Monday. Both in Guaíba and in the basins of the Gravataí, Sinos, Caí, Taquari, Jacuí and Uruguai rivers.

However, the Brazilian Geological Survey does not expect an increase as large as that recorded last week. The Geological Survey takes into account that the rain expected now is less than that of days ago, although with large volumes as well.

The weather should change from Tuesday (14). This is when the sun appears in almost all of Rio Grande do Sul. And where it rains, it should rain little. And there is the possibility of frost, especially near the border with Uruguay.
