Brasília (ONLY) – The state of Amazonas concentrates most of the country’s cases of Oropouche fever, with 2,462 confirmed records, of the total of 3,161 cases registered by the Ministry of Health, from January to the beginning of this week.
According to the MS survey, Amazonas is followed by Rondônia (590); Acre (68); Pará (23) and Roraima (18).
The Ministry of Health works with a scenario of “slow growth” of cases of Oropouche fever in Brazil, with almost total concentration in the North Region.
Risks in the Northeast
The department is also investigating what it classified as “rumor” in the Northeast region, where at least one unconfirmed case of the disease had occurred. “We are analyzing and contacting the municipality”, explained the Secretary of Health and Environmental Surveillance, Ethel Maciel.
What is Oropouche fever
Oropouche fever is transmitted by mosquitoes, especially Culicoides paraensis and Culex quinquefasciatus, popularly known as maruim.
The symptoms, very similar to those of dengue, last between two and seven days and include sudden onset fever, severe headache, back and lower back pain and joint pain.
