The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) authorized, this Tuesday (26), the direct transfer of resources from the Fuel Consumption Account to diesel oil suppliers of the company Brasil Biofuels (BBF).

The measure is seen as a temporary solution, to avoid the suspension of energy supply to around 110 thousand consumers.

Owner of 23 plants in the North region, the company does not have the cash to pay its suppliers and threatens to leave residents without electricity in Acre, Rondônia, Amazonas and Roraima.

“I must highlight, however, that the economic and financial situation experienced by BBF is unsustainable in the medium and long term. The solution proposed by the technical areas and endorsed by me is temporary, aiming to address an imminent risk that the lack of fuel will lead to energy shortages in the locations served by BBF”, said Aneel director Ricardo Tili.

At the beginning of March, distributor Energisa sent a letter to Aneel expressing concern about supply in locations in Acre and Rondônia.

The communication was made “due to signs of financial difficulties faced by the BBF Group [Brasil Biofuels] and the Rovema Group, responsible for servicing these systems”, says the Aneel report.

Brasil Biofuels generates energy in so-called “isolated systems”, that is, locations that are not connected to the national system and depend on on-site energy generation.

Most of the plants in these systems are diesel or fuel oil thermoelectric plants – used to burn and generate electricity.

This type of enterprise depends on the supply of fuel, which is funded by the Fuel Consumption Account (CCC) – one of the subsidies on the electricity bill of all Brazilian consumers.

This Tuesday (26), Aneel decided that, instead of transferring resources to Brasil Biofuels, this money will be sent directly to suppliers. This is because, as the company is in deficit and has debts, the funds could be used to carry out legal collection actions.

In this case, the risk would be that the company would run out of resources to cover the costs of purchasing fuel, leading to a lack of energy in the locations where it serves:
