Operation Snow: Gaeco carries out warrants in Campo Grande and Ponta Porã in the fight against trafficking

The Special Action Group for the Repression of Organized Crime (Gaeco) launched, on the morning of this Tuesday (26), an operation against a criminal cocaine trafficking group in the cities of Campo Grande and Ponta Porã. According to the investigation, civil police officers transported the drugs in marked official vehicles. See the video above.

According to the State Public Prosecutor’s Office, the criminal organization, highly structured, with a sophisticated distribution network, with several members, including co-opted police officers, distributed the drugs. The group used transport companies to launder the money.

The investigation showed that one of the ways used by the group to bring the drug from Ponta Porã to Campo Grande, from where it went to other states, was the so-called “safe shipping”, through which civil police officers transported the cocaine in an official vehicle marked, since, as a rule, it was not stopped, much less monitored by other public security units.

Operation “Snow” is aimed at executing 21 preventive arrest warrants, with 3 targets already being held in prison, in addition to 33 search and seizure warrants, in the municipalities of Campo Grande and Ponta Porã.

The criminal group transported the drug hidden within legal cargo, which made police inspection on the highways difficult, especially when it was cold/frozen material, since the trunk of the refrigerated truck was traveling sealed.

The investigation showed that the organization was still transferring ownership of trucks between companies used by the group and the drivers, separating them from the real owners, so as to attract less attention in possible police inspections.

Teams from the Shock Battalion, the Tactical Force and the Special Operations Battalion, all from the Military Police, in addition to the Civil Police Internal Affairs, provided support to Gaeco in carrying out the operation.

In a statement, the Civil Police spoke out.

The Civil Police of Mato Grosso do Sul is committed to combating any crime in our State. In this context, we inform you of our participation in the ongoing operation conducted by the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (GAECO). During this operation, the arrest warrants related to the arrest and search and seizure related to civil police officers were executed by our institution, through the General Inspectorate of the Civil Police. We emphasize that, in addition to measures of a criminal nature, administrative procedures are underway in the Internal Affairs Department to investigate possible disciplinary transgressions. Finally, we reinforce our commitment to not tolerate misconduct or any behavior that compromises the integrity of the institution and the trust of society.
