O São Paulo Metro presented on Friday, 26, the first composition of the new Fleet Nwhich in the future will operate in Line 17-Gold by monorail. The trains were manufactured by the Chinese BYD.
New images reveal the details of the first of the 14 new trains that will circulate between Morumbi and Congonhas Airport.
Basic characteristics
The composition of Fleet N has five cars per composition, unlike the Line 15-Silver monorail which has seven cars. Each composition is 3.2 meters wide by 60.8 meters long.
The front and rear cars are larger, measuring 13.5 meters, while the intermediate ones are 10 meters long. Each car has four doors, two on each side of the train, 1.6 meters wide.
The beam-rail width of Line 17-Gold trains is 800 mm. Each train car is supported by two bogies, and the power supply is provided by the third and fourth rail with a voltage of 750 VDC, which can reach speeds of up to 80km/h.
Fleet N must not have a driver, falling within the UTO (Unattended Train Operation) technology. The default signaling system is the CBTC and the technology for control will be the TCMS (Train Monitoring Control System).
The train should have the capacity to carry 616 passengers, 114 of which will be seated. The hall has LED lighting, air conditioning, security cameras, fire fighting system and fully digital dynamic maps.
The composition is the first equipped with traction batteries which allow the train to move in the event of a power outage.
Fleet N
Unlike the first images released by governor João Dória, this is actually the first train on Line 17-Ouro. The composition follows an internal layout very similar to that of Fleet M.
The operator’s cabin is located at the ends of the train, in the central area, and has three screens for monitoring the train, as well as button panels, traction handle and microphone.
The passenger lounge has longitudinal style seats with transverse seats in the gangway region. Passage between cars occurs along the sides of the vehicle.
Dynamic maps are above each of the doors. Between the cars, LED signs indicate the date, time, and opening on the side of the doors.
A distinguishing feature of the train are the tilting windows, which allow air to enter in case of air conditioning failure. The balusters are close to the seats and in the central region of the hall.
The train’s doors have a similar pattern to Line 15-Silver. The opening occurs through an external slide, eliminating the need for a compartment inside the hall, thus increasing the useful area for the windows.
Deadlines
The first composition has already been released for transport to Brazil. The five cars must come by ship and go through a release process before arriving at the Água Espraiada yard for commissioning tests.
For 2024 two new trains should arrive. The rest should be in Brazil in 2025. During this period, Line 17-Gold should have its rough works completed so that, in 2026, it can operate benefiting more than 100 thousand passengers per day.
