Due to the intense rains that ravaged the southern region of the State, many people are facing difficulties in acquiring food, water and other essential products, especially in the city of Mimoso do Sul. Faced with this delicate situation, the State Institute for Consumer Protection and Defense ( Procon-ES) warns traders in neighboring municipalities about the illegal practice of increasing product prices without justification, as established by the Consumer Protection Code.

The general director of Procon-ES, Letícia Coelho Nogueira, clarified that article 39 of the Consumer Protection Code (CDC) prohibits suppliers from raising the prices of products and services without a legitimate reason, such as a proven increase in costs that impact in the final value. Such costs must be properly documented.

“In the face of extreme calamity situations, speculation and price increases can be observed due to The growing demand. However, it is important to highlight that any price adjustment must be based on increased costs. Taking advantage of the population’s vulnerability to raise prices constitutes an abusive practice, as established by the Consumer Protection Code. Therefore, we recommend that traders act in strict accordance with the law”, emphasized Letícia Coelho Nogueira.

For complaints, consumers can use the Electronic Support available on the website procon.es.gov.brcall number 151 or contact via WhatsApp at number (27) 3323-6237.
