Operation in PE and six other states targets suspected drug traffickers and money launderers

Operation triggered by Civil Police of Pernambucoon the morning of this Tuesday (26), targets a gang suspected of drug trafficking and money laundering. The main target of Operation Ladybug (“ladybug”, in literal translation from English) is a man known to the common people “Ladybird”leader of a criminal organization operating in the Engenho Maranguape neighborhood, in the city of Paulista, in the Metropolitan Region.

The gang is linked to the teenager’s death Byanca Kauany Alves Rodrigues, 15 years old, dragged from her home and killed in February 2022. The young woman was sleeping with her 12-year-old sister and her grandmother, who uses a wheelchair, when armed men broke down the door of the house and dragged the teenager to a car. Her body was found half buried a few meters from the house.

In total, they were issued 28 arrest warrants It is 45 search and seizure warrantsfulfilled in Recife and in cities in the Metropolitan Region: Paulista, Olinda, Camaragibe and Cabo de Santo Agostinho; Limoeiro and Caruaru, in the Agreste of Pernambuco; and in others six states: Pará, Paraná, São Paulo, Mato Grosso, Rondônia and Santa Catarina.

According to the Civil Police, a warrant was also issued for kidnapping of assets It is judicial blocking of financial assets in the order of R$ 15 million.

In Pernambuco, the prisoners and seized materials were sent to the headquarters of the Department for the Repression of Property Crimes (Depatri), located in the neighborhood of Drownedin the West Zone of Recife.

Images shared by the Civil Police show that, among the materials seized in the operation, there are large-caliber weapons, ammunition and even grenades.

“Those under investigation circulate the money with the aim of hiding the illicit origin of the money in several states of the Federation, with emphasis on the States of Paraná, São Paulo, Pará, Rondônia, Mato Grosso and Santa Catarina”, said the Civil Police.

The operation was supported by the Directorate of Integrated Operations and Intelligence (Diopi) of the National Secretariat of Public Security of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (Senasp/MJSP).

Investigations into the gang began in February 2022. The operation is chaired by delegate Adyr Martens, head of the 8th Sectional Police Station.

According to the Civil Police, the operation is part of the Project Impulsepart of the National Program to Combat Criminal Organizations, which seeks to strengthen actions to combat and dismantle gangs, with the integration of the Civil Police — the police from the other six states provided support to the Pernambuco corporation.
