The inclusion by the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), on March 13th, of the tariffs for the Use of the Transmission System (TUST) and Distribution (TUSD) in the calculation basis of the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) It brings changes to the electricity scenario in the country and will generate impacts for large and residential consumers.

The main federations representing commerce and industry in Rio Grande do Norte expressed concern about inclusion, which will make electricity and impacted services more expensive. In the State, segments of hotels, shopping malls, industries and hospitals are expected to be the most affected due to high energy consumption.

The TUST and TUSD tariffs are costs charged by electricity concessionaires to remunerate the use of their transmission and distribution networks. They are additional amounts charged to the electricity bill, in addition to the amount referring to actual electricity consumption. “It’s the tariff we pay for using the network, where the energy circulates”, explains Aline Bagesteiro, legal and management director of the Association of Large Energy Consumers and Free Consumers (Abrace Energia), an institution that is against charging.
