PRF in Bahia launches Operation Semana Santa 2024 with a focus on road safety and ensuring mobility on highways

-

The Federal Highway Police (PRF) in Bahia begins Operation Holy Week 2024 at midnight this Thursday (28), which will last until 11:59 pm on Sunday (31). During these four days, actions will be aimed at ensuring road safety and mobility on the state’s federal highways and roads, aiming to preserve lives.

Holy Week is known as the second holiday with the highest flow of vehicles on the roads, behind only the June festivities. Given this increase in traffic, as well as festivities that potentially involve the consumption of alcoholic beverages and other products that affect the ability to drive, traffic enforcement will be intensified to ensure the safety of users.

Among the main actions planned to prevent accidents during the operation, we highlight the fight against drunk driving, speed control, inspection of prohibited overtaking, use of seat belts, child restraint devices, use of cell phones, among others. .

In addition, traffic education activities will be carried out, which have shown positive results and involve the engagement of highway users. The PRF will be present at pedestrian crossings, bus terminals and will promote awareness among all traffic actors, such as cyclists, pedestrians, drivers, motorcyclists and passengers.

The PRF will also intensify the fight against crime, carrying out approaches based on intelligence information and using technology to arrest criminals, recover stolen vehicles and remove illegal weapons, drugs and smuggled products from circulation.

Security Guidelines

The PRF emphasizes the enormous importance of adopting preventive measures by drivers. Care related to the conservation of vehicles and the correct functioning of safety items are essential for preventing accidents and protecting both the driver’s life and that of other road users.

Among the main items to be observed to ensure a safe trip, the PRF highlights:

  • Careful trip planning, including identifying stopping points, traffic and road conditions, and weather forecast.
  • Check the pressure of all tires and pay attention to the load the vehicle will carry (luggage and passengers).
  • Spare tire inspection; If damaged, replace it for use if necessary.
  • Tire alignment and balancing.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is equipped with the mandatory items: spare tire, wishbone, tire iron and jack in the trunk.
  • Testing the vehicle’s lighting system.
  • Proper maintenance of the cooling system and radiator water level.
  • Review of damping and braking systems.
  • Checking the expiration date of the filter and engine oil.
  • Testing the windshield wipers.
  • Checking battery operation.
  • Inspection of vehicle hoses and belts.
  • Maintaining documentation up to date, including licensing and payment of IPVA.

These precautions help to ensure a safer and more peaceful trip for everyone involved.

Vehicle flow

The PRF is ready to deal with the expected increase in the flow of vehicles moving uniformly across the state. It is expected that the peak of movement on the way out for the long holiday will occur between the end of the afternoon and the beginning of the evening on Thursday (28), while the return should record a greater volume of vehicles during the afternoon and evening of Sunday (31). An 11.5% increase in vehicle volume is expected compared to a typical weekend.
