On March 27th the first edition of the Music Day at the Museum. The event was included in the Rio State Commemorative Dates Calendar. In January, the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj) made the inclusion of the commemorative date official by decree, after the sanction of the governor Cláudio Castro (PL).
The Music at the Museum project was created by the producer Sergio da Costa e Silva, whose birthday would be on March 27th. But the event celebrations begin on the 26th, Tuesday, at 6pm, with the presentation of the Villa-Lobos in Jazzat the Sesc Artlocated in Flamengoat South Zonel of the city.
At the front of the group is the drummer Octavio Garcia along with Felipe Poli (guitar), Alex Rocha (low) and Marco Tulio (sax and flute). On that occasion, the public will be able to hear the “Bachianas nº5 (Cantilena)”, “Caicó” It is “Job’s Slaves”, among other pieces from the classical and popular repertoire of Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959), in jazz rhythm. The recently deceased pianist Fernando Coronawho was a member of the group, will also be honored.
On Wednesday, the 27th, it will be the Tonal Quartet make a presentation dedicated to women, who will be able to listen to classics from MPB and other musical genres, such as “Watercolor of Brazil” (Ary Barroso), “Lígia” (Tom Jobim), “Carolina” (Chico Buarque) and the tango “Por Una Cabeza” (Alfredo Le Pera / Carlos Gardel).
The Tonal Quartet is formed Nelma Pataro (recorder – soprano and alto), Sergio Simões Menezes (recorder – tenor and alto), João Azeredo (alto recorder and transverse flute) and Sarah Nery (piano and percussion). The presentation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Bando do Brasil Cultural Center (CCBB)at the center of River.
“For us, it is a great honor to play on the date when Music Day at the Museum is now celebrated, a project that I have been involved in for years, with this and other groups – and many more to come”, said Nelma Pataro, musical director of Quarteto Tonal.
Defined as the largest permanent series of national classical music by Rank Brazil – Brazilian record approval system – Música no Museu completes 27 years of great artistic and public success. In almost three uninterrupted decades of the project, more than 1 million spectators have attended the free concerts.
“We started to promote here a habit that was already common in Europe, of taking music to places such as churches, cultural centers, historical points, as well as, of course, museums”, highlighted Sérgio da Costa e Silva, whose project became his book: “Music in the Museum – 25 years, One Life”released last year by the publisher Carpex.
In December 1997, the first edition of Música no Museu was held, with a presentation by the guitarist Turíbio Santosat the National Museum of Fine Arts, which was crowded. The project was so successful that it went beyond national borders, with shows in Europeat the Carnegie Hallin New York (USA)in addition to several states in the Brazil.
Works by musicians, such as Arnaldo Cohen, João Carlos Assis Brazil, Paulo Moura, Miguel Proença It is Yamandu Costawere presented in the Music at the Museum series, which also honored young artists, such as the prodigy pianist William Lehninger Swistwho, at just 11 years old, performed in Brazil in September 2023.
Upon completing 15 years, Música no Museu held an itinerant celebration, in São João Del Rey (MG), with a performance by Nelson Freire (1944-2012), the late internationally renowned pianist.
