  • The first unit outside the Sistema S facilities, the restaurant will open in September. Sesc offers healthy, quality meals at low cost

This Friday (26) was a day to celebrate at the Legislative Chamber of the Federal District (CLDF). Today, the legislative house and the Social Service of Commerce (Sesc) signed a Technical Cooperation Agreement (ACT) to install and operate a restaurant-snack bar at the Chamber’s headquarters. The first unit outside the Sistema S facilities, works will begin in May, with opening scheduled for September.

The establishment will serve around 1,700 people, including employees, outsourced workers, interns and visitors. The menu includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack combos. With seasonings and natural foods to ensure healthy food, the meals have competitive prices, based on the Sesc price list.

The signing of the ACT took place in the foyer of the CLDF Plenary and was attended by district members Wellington Luiz (MDB), Martins Machado (Republicans), Chico Vigilante (PT), Max Maciel (Psol), Pepa (PP) and Dayse Amarilio ( PSB). Representative Roosevelt Vilela (PL) was unable to be present, but sent a message for the ceremony.

The president of the Chamber, Wellington Luiz, considered that “it couldn’t be just anyone, it had to be the S system to give dignity to people who have been waiting for many years”. He explained that the restaurant is part of CLDF’s initial project and reinforced that finally realizing this dream is a source of honor. “I have no doubt that this is one of the most important moments in the Chamber’s history. There were many questions and challenges. This victory is not from this administration, it is from the history of the Legislative Chamber”, he added.

Also present were the regional director of Sesc-DF, Valcides de Araújo Silva, and the president of the Federation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism of the Federal District (Fecomércio-DF), José Aparecido da Costa Freire. Fecomércio-DF is responsible for administering, at district level, the Fecomércio System which encompasses, in addition to the federation itself, Sesc, the Fecomércio Institute (IF) and the National Commercial Learning Service (Senac).

“We are pleased to be here at CLDF. The Legislative Chamber is one of the biggest social partners we have”, praised Valcides de Araújo. He pointed out that the restaurant will also serve the entire Southwest region. “We are here inside a monument, we have to do our best. The Legislative Chamber does not just represent democracy. It also represents our entire square,” he added.

José Freire, in turn, announced that it will be a modern unit and reflected on the purpose of the enterprise. “At least a thousand people pass through the legislative house every day. We want to provide conditions so that these people can have a good service at a low cost. We are going to charge the prices we charge in our units here,” he clarified.

On the occasion, judge Roberval Casemiro Belinati, 1st Vice-President of the Court of Justice of the Federal District, represented the president of the TJ-DF, Waldir Leôncio Júnior. Also participating were the Secretary of Public Security, Alexandre Patury; the deputy attorney general of the Public Defender’s Office of the DF, Emmanuela Saboya; members of the boards and administrative councils of Sesc and Senac; between others.

Belinati argued that a well-fed server will produce more and be more satisfied. The judge also reflected on the importance of the CDLF for democracy. “We are here in front of 3 million Brasilia residents, represented by deputies. Here we find the people’s house,” he declared.

The first meal

After the ceremony, a feijoada was served to employees and visitors at Praça do Servidor, close to the area that will house the future establishment. Those present lined up to try Sesc’s first meal, a courtesy offered in temporary facilities, as construction work had not yet begun. Around 800 meals were distributed. To make the experience even better, singer Jean Mussa and his band packed lunch with great samba hits.

Currently, Sesc has restaurant units in Asa Sul, Guará, Taguatinga Norte, Ceilândia and Gama. The excellence of Sesc’s food is widely recognized, as the first people to try the meal at CLDF attested: “it’s the best feijoada of my life”, said Erika Silva, an intern at the Organizational Communication Center (NCO).
