São Paulo, current champion of the Copa do Brasil (Wesley Santos/São Paulo)

Current champion of the Copa do Brasil, São Paulo secured a place in the round of 16 by beating Águia de Marabá. Even though Luis Zubeldía’s team should not be underestimated, Flavio Prado considers that, in the current season, Flamengo, Atlético-MG and Flamengo are the main contenders for the competition’s trophy.

“São Paulo can win any knockout tournament, like any other team. Criciúma has already won, Santos André has already won… if everything goes normally, Flamengo, Palmeiras or Atlético-MG will win.”, said Flavio Prado, on Canelada, on Jovem Pan.

If the favorites fall by the wayside, Flavio Prado pointed out that São Paulo has a chance to win the second championship. However, as the title was won by the club in 2023, the journalist sees a second successive victory as unlikely.

“If these three players are decent, there’s no one else. If they don’t play, anyone can. That’s what happened with São Paulo. It’s difficult to happen again with the same team because São Paulo is in the mix with the other teams. Fluminense is not a team to win the Libertadores, but they did.”

“Can São Paulo win anything in the knockout stage? I find it difficult. The coin has already landed on its side once.”, he continued.

Flavio Prado criticizes SPFC’s performance

Despite São Paulo’s victory against Vitória, Tricolor’s performance was far from pleasing Flavio Prado. In this scenario, if the team does not evolve, the communicator sees that the remainder of the season will only result in frustrations on the field.

“It was a horrible and sleepy game. They even conceded a goal… I arrive and to my surprise (they say) São Paulo played well. How did you play well? He didn’t play anything. That’s the analysis. Fans can say what they want, but the game was horrible. Very bad. If you play like that, you’re screwed. It’s not going anywhere.”, he warned.
