A 60-year-old woman suffered a sudden illness and died on Wednesday afternoon (8) at a bank branch in Bangu, in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro. The bank is the same one that served ‘Uncle Paulo’, an elderly man who was taken lifeless by his niece to withdraw a bank loan of R$17,000.

According to information from the Fire Department and Itaú Unibanco, the elderly woman had a sudden illness as soon as she entered the branch. All emergency protocols were adopted, including medical assistance. However, upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found the victim dead.

In a statement, Itaú Unibanco lamented the death of the elderly woman and reported that, out of respect for the victim, customers and employees, the branch remained closed throughout Wednesday.

Who was Uncle Paulo

Paulo Roberto Braga was a bus driver and had four brothers, who lived in other states and with whom he had hardly any contact. Therefore, he lived with Erika and three of his niece’s six children in Bangu, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro.

According to relatives, ‘Uncle Paulo’ had no children, was never married and lived with the part of the family linked to his niece Erika for 15 years.

Relatives also said that the worsening of their health occurred due to the consumption of alcoholic beverages. In the last weeks of his life, ‘Tio Paulo’ was already very weak and had great difficulty walking. Erika was responsible for much of his care.
