Rio – The Civil Police concluded that Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes, 42 years old, who took Paulo Roberto Braga’s corpse to take out a loan, did not attempt to withdraw another benefit in the victim’s name previously. The information was confirmed by delegate Fábio Luiz da Sila, head of the 34th DP (Bangu), who is responsible for the investigations, this Wednesday (24).

The delegate requested bank secrecy from Érika, who is in prison for the crimes of attempted theft through fraud and vilification of a corpse. In her statement, Erika said that the elderly man had requested a loan of R$17,000 to buy a new television and renovate the house. In the analysis of banking transactions, it was found that the elderly man’s niece tried to withdraw, together with the elderly man, only once, at an Itaú branch in Bangu, in the West Zone. It was after this attempt that the case gained national and international repercussion.

Cameras caught the action

In her hearing, she claimed that Paulo arrived at the bank alive and that he stopped responding when he was being served at the counter. However, security camera images show that the retiree is already entering the bank with his body inert. The videos are from security cameras on the Bangu promenade, in the West Zone of Rio, and the entrance to the bank branch. From the images, Paulo already appears to have no control over his muscles and with his neck tilted to the side. With a movement of her arm, Erika lifts the elderly man’s head for about 20 seconds to pass security.

Then she comes back, goes through the revolving door and takes Paulo to the counter. There, she chatted normally, even asking Paulo to sign the document authorizing the collection of the money. Employees at the bank branch became suspicious and called teams from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu).

Report

The elderly person’s autopsy report showed that it was not possible to determine whether the man died before or after arriving at the bank. According to the document, the death would have occurred between 11:30 am on Tuesday (16), the day he went to the agency, and 1 am on Wednesday (17), that is, from 10 am to 24 hours after the elderly man was submitted to the medical examination. necropsy. Therefore, the report is inconclusive about the exact moment of Paulo’s death. The cause of death, according to the report, was bronchoaspiration of stomach contents and heart failure.

What those involved say

The app driver who transported the woman and the elderly man to the bank said that Paulo Roberto was alive during the journey. In testimony, the man stated that the elderly man grabbed the car door. The boy reported that he was called to the race at around 12:26 pm and that, upon arriving at the location, Érika was at the gate of the house with the elderly man. According to the driver, he spent seven minutes alone with the victim in the car, waiting for the woman to return with the wheelchair to the parking lot.

A man who works as a motorcycle taxi driver at a point on Erika street also gave a statement and said that the elderly man was alive when he left the house. According to the witness, he helped put Paulo inside the vehicle. As the statement says, the elderly man was still breathing and had strength in his hands. The witness highlighted that Paulo even held the car door when he entered.

Erika’s defense, represented by lawyer Ana Carla Corrêa, guarantees that the elderly man arrived at the bank alive, in addition to informing that Paulo suffered from alcoholism and had recently faced health problems, as well as using a wheelchair. “The elderly man is her uncle and we have witnesses who confirm that Paulo arrived at the agency alive. They live, the family itself, on a large plot of land with several houses, and there they take care of each other. Mr. Paulo has always been an independent person , but over time he began to have a little weaker health, not only because of his age, but because he was also an alcoholic,” he said.
