A 28-year-old Dutch woman will be euthanized in May due to serious mental health problems. According to the NY Post, Zoraya ter Beek was diagnosed with depression, autism and borderline personality disorder, also known as borderline syndrome – characterized by extreme instability.

After years of care, doctors concluded that there were no more treatment options. “The doctors told me there was nothing more they could do. I was always very clear that, if it didn’t improve, this would be an option,” she told the Free Press.

According to the publication, the procedure will be carried out in the woman’s home and will be carried out as follows: the doctor will administer a sedative, followed by medication to stop the heart. She asked her boyfriend to be by her side during the intervention. Zoraya will be cremated and her ashes will be scattered in a forest.

The Netherlands legalized euthanasia in 2001. Since then, the number of euthanasia deaths has increased. In 2022, the procedure was responsible for 5% of all deaths in the country. In February, the Dutch Prime Minister, Dries van Agtaged 93, and his wife died hand in hand by euthanasia.
