Investing in qualified professionals is one of the most important points of investing in health and this is a major differentiator of Mayor Luciano Barbosa’s administration. This Thursday (18), Arapiraca received a new achievement that proves it: the Reference Center for Occupational Health (Cerest) had its work approved for presentation at the 24th Stress Congress of the International Stress Management Association (ISMA).

The work, produced by speech therapist Luana Amorim and psychologist Marcella Santos, is a research and intervention project focusing on the mental and vocal health of teachers in the municipal education network. The project was approved by the scientific committee and competes in the Public Business Service category.

According to data from ISMA, professional stress is a public health problem in Brazil, affecting around 72% of Brazilian workers and frequently causing illness. Furthermore, around 32% are suffering from burnout syndrome, an emotional disorder whose main symptoms are extreme exhaustion, stress and physical exhaustion caused by exhausting work.

The international approval of the work could not have come at a more opportune time, as Cerest, in allusion to World Voice Day, celebrated on April 16, is currently carrying out a campaign to promote vocal health among students at the State University of Alagoas (Uneal). According to the speech therapist, the teaching class suffers from excessive vocal demand, which can lead to the development of work-related vocal dysphonia (VRTD), causing absences and absenteeism from work.

All achievements are merits of the excellent awareness and intervention work, both vocal and mental health, carried out by the Cerest team throughout the year.
