In a sincere interview with the British newspaper The Guardian, musician Nick Cave, 66, addressed the feeling of guilt he carries over the tragic deaths of two of his four sons: Arthur, in 2015, and Jethro, in 2022.
“I think that [culpa] It’s something that people who lose children inevitably feel, simply because one of the things you have an obligation to do is protect your children,” Cave said.
When asked about the death of Arthur, who fell from a cliff under the influence of LSD, the musician admitted his guilt over the presence of drugs in the incident: “There could be a certain element of that, yes. Look, that kind of thing is in your DNA , are inherited. I don’t want to assume anything about Arthur, he was just a kid. It’s not that he was an addict.”
Cave, lead singer of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, with 17 studio albums released, concluded: “Ultimately, it goes against nature to bury your own children. And there’s no way to avoid the feeling of guilt.”
