The Brazilian board of Itaipu released, this Thursday (2), details of the special program that will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the binational company, created by the governments of Brazil and Paraguay on May 17, 1974.

The month will also mark the 40th anniversary of the plant’s entry into operation, whose commercial energy generation began on May 5, 1984.
The main attraction for the community will take place on May 19th, a Sunday, at Gramadão da Vila A, with a performance of dronesfollowed by performances by the group LightWire and singer Jão, whose most recent album broke the record for most listened to on the Spotify platform in Brazil in the first 24 hours (8.4 million plays).
With legions of fans in the universe pop, Jão is one of the names confirmed for Rock in Rio 2024, a festival scheduled for September, in Rio de Janeiro. The group LightWire is known for its choreographed performances using lights and sounds.
Itaipu will also bring, for performances in 15 cities in Paraná, the actor Paulo Betti, with his play Authorized Autobiography. The documentary on the 50th anniversary of Itaipu, accompanied by animation Loraxwill be shown in 15 cities in Paraná and five in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.
Internal events
On the 6th, at the Central Discharge Building, around 900 Brazilian and Paraguayan employees will participate in a binational ceremony celebrating the inaugural rotation of the first Itaipu turbine.
On May 9, there will be a dinner for employees completing 15, 20, 25 or 35 years at the hydroelectric plant. On the same day, employees with 15 years of service will plant trees in the Worker’s Forest.
On the 17th, there will be a ceremony to unveil a plaque commemorating the company’s 50th anniversary, with the participation of directors, advisors, employees and guests.
For June, events such as Arraiá do Ecomuseum, the reopening of the Veterinary Hospital and the Adventure Nanoracing are scheduled.
