General Motors revealed that it will stop manufacturing cars in Colombia and Ecuador. With this, the automaker will sell in both countries only imported vehicles and will provide after-sales services to Chevrolet brand customers.

In an official statement, GM highlighted that activities at the Colmotores factory (where cars were produced for the Colombian market) have already been interrupted and the process of dismantling the machines is underway.

Production was well below maximum capacity

Production at the OBB factory in Ecuador will only end in August 2024.

Factories operated well below their annual production capacities. While the Colombian plant was operating at just 9% of its capacity, the Ecuador plant was operating at just 13% of its total capacity.

In Colombia, GM produced the Chevrolet Joy, the old generation of Onix. In 2023, the manufacturer’s intention was announced to establish an electric vehicle assembly line in the country.
