Botafogo hosts LDU this Wednesday for the fourth round match of Conmebol Libertadores in Group D. The ball rolls at the Nilton Santos Stadium at 9:30 pm, with live broadcast from Globo.

Botafogo needs to find a solution for the attack after injuries

The team coached by Spaniard Josep Alcácer is going through a better moment than in the first meeting between the teams. There were five matches, with one defeat, one draw and three consecutive victories, all for the Ecuadorian.

Today, they occupy third place in Nacional with two points and one game less than leader Aucas. Alex Arce remains the team’s main highlight, with 16 goals and one assist in 19 games this season.

Alcácer will have important absences. Midfielder Sebastian González and goalkeeper Gonzalo Valle will not be available, as will defender Richard Mina. On the other hand, Lisandro Alzugaray, who scored the winning goal in the first meeting between the teams, is recovered and should start on the bench.

Team captain, midfielder Ezequiel Piovi also returns from the medical department and should form the midfield alongside Marco Angulo.

– We’ve been playing all semester and we have our minds set on Botafogo. They come with a very worked and improved game idea, with good results. It’s an offensive team, it accumulates a lot of people and occupies spaces. They have difficulties when they don’t have the ball and then we must be strong – said captain Ezequiel Piovi in an interview with the Ecuadorian press.

Ahead, Artur Jorge’s team will face an opponent that is traditionally tough to face in continental competition. Champion in 2008 over Fluminense at Maracanã, the Ecuadorians have an excellent record against Brazilians, but generally playing in Quito.

In Brazil there are only four victories, one of them in the Libertadores, against Santos in the 2020 round of 16. In Rio de Janeiro, they never won, but came back with two continental cups, even though they were defeated.
