Brazil’s candidacy to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup achieved a higher score than its only competitor – a union of Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium – in the evaluation of FIFA technicians. On a scoring scale that goes from 1 to 5, Brazil received a score of 4. The European candidacy reached a score of 3.7.

FIFA’s report evaluating the candidacies was published on Tuesday night, ten days before the vote that will decide where the next Women’s World Cup will be held.

The vote – in which representatives of the 211 national football associations participate – will be held during the FIFA Congress, to be organized in Thailand.

In the evaluation report, a 92-page document in English, the FIFA executives responsible for analyzing the two candidacies write the following about Brazil:

– Brazil’s candidacy offers good stadiums, specifically built and generally configured for the biggest international events, having hosted the 2021 World Cup. It also presents a strong commercial position, with a combination of revenue potential and cost efficiency. The CBF and the Brazilian government demonstrated support for the candidacy and commitment to hosting the event, which is particularly important, as certain investments in infrastructure and services would be necessary to guarantee the success of the tournament. Finally, it is worth noting that, if the bid is successful, South America would host the competition for the first time, which would have a tremendous impact on women’s football in the region.

The FIFA report gave grades to the candidates in six categories. Here are the notes for each:

Evaluation of Applications

Criterion Notes from Brazil Dutch banknotes
Stadiums 3.7 3.4
Structures for teams and referees 3.3 3.5
accommodation 4.6 4.5
Media Centers 3.3 4.0

Commercial assessment 4.5 4.0
Average 4.0 3.7

Brazil’s bid offers 10 stadiums – almost all of those used in the 2014 World Cup, with the exception of Arena das Dunas (Natal) and Arena da Baixada (Curitiba). Both opening and final would be at Maracanã.

Europe’s bid envisages thirteen stadiums – five in the Netherlands, four in Germany and four in Belgium. The opening would be in Amsterdam, at the Johann Cruyff Arena. And the final at the Borussia stadium in Dortmund.

Until last week there were three bids, but Mexico and the United States withdrew from the race for 2027 to focus their efforts on trying to host the 2031 edition of the tournament.
