One of the main luxury attractions in Beijing Motor Show 2024O new plug-in hybrid Lamborghini Urus gained the spotlight on the eve of the opening of the Chinese fair this Thursday (25). The super SUV had the first photos and details revealed by the bull brand and has impressive numbers. The new plug-in rechargeable version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 312 km/h.

In this way, the plug-in hybrid Lamborghini Urus becomes the fastest luxury SUV in the world, surpassing the Aston Martin DBX707, which has also just been restyled and reaches a top speed of 310 km/h. In fact, it is worth noting that the English brand’s super sports SUV does 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds. However, the Aston Martin car is 100% combustion, with a 4.0 V8 gasoline engine of 707 hp (which gives around 717 hp of power) and 91.3 mkgf of maximum torque.

Lamborghini Urus SE has gasoline and electric engines

Being a plug-in hybrid is what makes the new Lamborghini Urus “unique” in the segment. As we know, all supercar brands have been reluctant to enter the era of electrification. For example, the Ferrari Purosangue, one of the most coveted SUVs in the world today, is also powered by gasoline with its powerful 6.5-liter V12 engine capable of 725 hp and 72.9 mkgf of maximum torque. Its 0 to 100 km/h also takes 3.3 seconds, just like the Aston Martin. But the hybrid Lamborghini Urus has 800 hp and 95 mkgf.

The bull brand’s super SUV has a modern, rechargeable hybrid package. Under the hood, the Lamborghini Urus has a powerful 4.0 V8 gasoline engine, which develops 620 hp and 80 mkgf of maximum torque. This is combined with another electric motor that generates 192 hp and 48 mkgf powered by a 25.9 kWh capacity battery. In turn, this provides a range of around 60 km in electric mode at speeds of up to 130 km/h.

Superlative numbers

With all-wheel drive and many driving modes (10 in total), the new plug-in hybrid Lamborghini Urus is faster than the S version, which is combustion-only. While 0 to 100 km/h takes 3.4 seconds, it only takes 11.2 seconds to reach 200 km/h – the gasoline model does the same acceleration in 12.5 seconds. The maximum speed reaches 312 km/h, which makes the Italian SUV the fastest on the planet today in its segment.

To deliver such performance, the Super SUV relies on electronics, which offers a program with 10 different driving modes. They are: Strada, Sport and Corsa (this one for the track); Neve, Sabbia and Terra (for off-road use); and EV Drive, Hybrid, Performance and Recharge (for electrification). These adjustments allow, for example, to reduce or raise the suspension height, as well as increase the load on the brake regeneration system, helping to recharge the battery.

New look and new features on board

In addition to gaining the plug-in hybrid system, the new Lamborghini Urus SE brings a discreet visual update. In general, the luxury SUV is more elegant, with narrower headlights and a less geometric look. At the rear, the main change is in the position of the identification plate, which descends from the middle of the lid to the bumper. This made the drawing cleaner. Inside, there is a larger 12.3-inch screen for multimedia.

Still without a defined launch date, the new Lamborghini Urus SE plug-in hybrid debuts this Thursday (25), at the opening of the Beijing Motor Show, in China. And it should hit the streets in the second half of this year. In Brazil, the launch should be scheduled for the beginning of 2025.
