O electric vehicle market is still basically dominated by the American company Tesla and Chinese companiessuch as BYD and GWM, although traditional automakers such as Chevrolet, Nissan and Renault are also strong competitors in this segment.

This Thursday night (29) marked the entry of yet another rival in the electric sector: Xiaomi, famous for manufacturing and selling smartphones in Brazil. The technology company kicked off with the SU7, a luxury sedan that will arrive in three versions on the Chinese market.

The entry-level model, the SU7, will cost from R$152,000 (US$30,431) for Chinese consumers. However, the price rises with the SU7 Pro and reaches R$210,000 in the case of the SU7 Max, the top-of-the-line version. The automaker promises a minimum autonomy of 700 km.

The first SU7 and SU7 Max will arrive in customer garages by the end of April, while the SU7 Pro should only be delivered in May.

According to Chinese public news agency Xinhua, Xiaomi entered the electric vehicle sector in 2021 when it began building a plant of more than 700,000 square meters in Beijing.

The Chinese Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers indicates that the production of electric vehicles in the country reached 1.25 million units, while sales reached 1.21 million units in the first two months of 2024. The numbers represent increases close to 30% over the same period last year.
