Mother and baby tapir are caught walking behind the Campo Grande race track
A mother and her baby tapir were spotted walking together to celebrate the day of the largest land mammal in South America, celebrated this Saturday (27): the tapir. The above record It was carried out behind the Campo Grande (MS) race track, on Friday afternoon (26), by the service provider, Wagner Valente Lopes.
According to Lieutenant Eveny, from the Military Environmental Police (PMA), close to the race track there is a watercourse, with a permanent preservation area, where there are many animals, such as tapirs and capybaras.
“Near the golf lands, capybaras are run over a lot, precisely because of this traffic, this permanent preservation area”, lamented the Lieutenant.
Furthermore, Eveny reminds us that the animals are fine and that, if no one bothers them, there will be no problems with capturing or hunting, as they are in their natural habitat.
Known as the forest gardener, the tapir drops seeds wherever it goes, helping in the growth and development of plant diversity.
According to the Research Center of the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), loss, habitat fragmentation, road kill and hunting are among the main causes of the threats suffered by the species, characterized as vulnerable on the List of Endangered Species.
According to information from the center, the tapir is included in the National Action Plan for Ungulates.
