Environmental activist Greta Thunberg was fined in her native Sweden for disobeying police orders after blocking one of the entrances to Parliament on two occasions in March, Stockholm District Court said on Wednesday (8).

On March 12 and 13, Thunberg and four other activists were forcibly removed by police during a protest against the effects of climate change and also against political inaction to respond to the problem.

They were tried for this incident. Thunberg was fined 6,000 Swedish crowns (equivalent to R$2,800), according to the TT news agency.

She is frequently detained by the police. See some of the cases below:

A court official confirmed to Reuters that Thunberg was found guilty. She declined to comment on the amount of the fine.

Thunberg, 21, became the face of young environmental activists after her weekly protests starting in 2018 near the Swedish Parliament quickly turned into a global youth movement with demonstrations around the world.

Stockholm police stated that although activists had the right to demonstrate inside the National Assembly, they were removed because they were blocking the entrances.

See below a 2021 video of a speech by Greta in which she criticizes the lack of action by political leaders.
