The fun is over! Japanese city will build barrier to hide one of the most famous views of Mount Fuji

It is simply the best-known volcano in Japan and one of the most photographed attractions in the country. But soon fewer tourists will miss one of the main spots for photographing the iconic Mount Fuji.

Japanese authorities will begin setting up a huge barrier next week at one of the most popular places to take photos of Mount Fuji, in the city of Fujikawaguchiko, after residents and businesses in the region complained about bad behavior from foreign tourists.

Japan’s highest mountain, Mount Fuji can be seen and photographed from different places in Fujikawaguchiko, but one point that has become quite famous is where it appears in the background of the Lawson convenience store, well known in the country.

The combination of the mountain and the store “spread a reputation on social media that this place is very Japanese, which made it a very popular spot for photos,” a city resident told AFP.

In times of photos and likes on social media, you can imagine that this place has really become popular, attracting tourists from all over the world. Many of them crowd the narrow sidewalk in front of the store, ignore traffic signals and even park without permission at a nearby dental clinic, climbing onto the roof of the building to get the perfect photo.

Faced with these problems, the authorities decided to take action and will build a net 2.5 meters high and 20 meters long to block the view of Mount Fuji. In other words: no more photos of the store with the mountain!

This is not the only measure linked to Mount Fuji. Recently, it was announced that during the summer season tourists who want to climb the mountain on the most popular route need to pay a fee (around R$65), with limited numbers of visitors to avoid overcrowding at the site.

What did you think of this measure? If you plan to take a photo of Mount Fuji (but now from a place other than the one with the store in front), check out plane tickets to Japan here.
