The Olympic Training Center at the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT), in Cuiabá, underwent a series of improvements to host the Ibero-American Athletics Championship, which starts this Friday (10.05) and will continue until Sunday (12.05) . The services are part of the partnership signed between the State Government and the Brazilian Athletics Confederation (CBAt) to hold the event in Mato Grosso.

According to the Secretary of State for Culture, Sport and Leisure, Jefferson Carvalho Neves, the reforms and adjustments aim to create the conditions for positive results for sport and for the State.

“There are several services to keep our track among the best in the country and also improve public comfort. In addition to conserving public assets, reforms and adjustments are important even for the performance of athletes, guaranteeing better results and, certainly, an even more fantastic sporting spectacle”, emphasized the secretary.

The athletics track, which is already one of the best in Brazil today, was revitalized with a specific wash that highlights the colors. The lines separating the lanes were painted again to highlight the spaces occupied by the athletes.

The services also include improvements to the field, replacement of broken chairs in the stands, painting in external areas, electrical maintenance, repairs to lighting around the track and access points, and general cleaning.

Over the three days of competition, the space will bring together more than 500 athletes representing 23 countries. In addition to Brazil, the teams from Angola, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Ecuador, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Portugal, Dominican Republic, São Tomé and Príncipe, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The Olympic indices set by World Athletics for each of the events and the points in the World Ranking for quotas in the race for places in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be up for grabs.

The Ibero-American Championship is an athletics competition at national team level, contested every two years by Ibero-American countries, Andorra and African countries where the official language is Spanish or Portuguese.
