One of the most stunning natural landscapes in the United States is hidden inside another surprising American landmark. A Ruby Fallsthe highest and deepest underground waterfall in the Americas, is located inside the Lookout Mountainwhich, in itself, is one of the main attractions in the region.
Both tourist spots are in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a southern city known for its climbing, cycling and hiking routes. The sightseeing tour begins with a glass-enclosed elevator that descends 26 floors into the heart of the mountain.
At the bottom, visitors will see a series of stalactites, stalagmites, ancient formations and, of course, Ruby Falls, which stands 44 m high. The falls are so called because Leo Lambertan explorer who found the site in 1928, named his discovery after his wife, Ruby.
To keep the cave well preserved and visitors safe, all visits are guided. The public can opt for the tour Cave Walk – which offers a quicker trip through the cave to the waterfall with a pre-recorded audio guide.
There is also the Gentle Walking Tour, which takes place early in the morning and has more detailed information; and the Lantern Tourwhich occurs at night.
In addition to seeing the underground cave and waterfall, travelers to Ruby Falls can climb the viewpoints Lookout Mountain Tower It is Blue Heron Overlook for stunning views of the valley and the Tennessee River.
