Argentina and Colombia normalize relations

The San Martín palaces, in Buenos Aires, and San Carlos, in Bogotá, intervened and normalized diplomatic relations between Argentina and Colombia, after the latest clash between the presidents of the two countries last week.

On Wednesday, March 27, Colombian president Gustavo Petro expelled Argentine diplomats from Colombia. He also summoned the Colombian ambassador to Argentina, Camilo Romero, for consultations.

“The Colombian Government instructed Ambassador Camilo Romero to return to Buenos Aires, at the same time that it approved the new Ambassador proposed by the Argentine government in Bogotá”says a joint statement from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries.

The note also announced the visit of the Argentine Chancellor, Diana Mondino (photo), to Colombia, with no scheduled date yet.

“Terrorist killer”

Petro ordered the expulsion of Argentine diplomats from the Argentine embassy in Bogotá on the night of Wednesday, March 27th.

The information was confirmed by the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs via X, formerly Twitter.

“The Government of Colombia orders the expulsion of diplomats from the Argentine embassy in Colombia”published the folder without identifying who, if not all, of the Argentine mission will be expelled.

“The scope of this decision will be communicated to the Argentine Embassy through institutional diplomatic channels”he added.

Subsequently, the summoning of the Colombian ambassador to Argentina, Camilo Romero, for consultations was also announced, the second time since January.

The reason for the disturbance was provocations from the Argentine president, Javier Milei, in an interview for the second time in three months. This time, the libertarian called Petro “a terrorist killer.”
