Interior Minister Victor Torres announced his decision to resign from his position on Monday, which was followed by the resignations of the Ministers of Education and Women. Everyone expressed support for Boluarte, with one of them calling the police raid on the president’s house “unnecessary” and “excessive”.

“I am leaving in peace and with clean hands,” Torres told reporters, insisting that his resignation was due to “health and family issues.” The other two ministers did not give reasons for their resignations.

On Monday night, Boluarte announced three more departures from his cabinet, including the ministers of Production, Commerce and Agriculture. She appointed six new ministers in total – replacing about a third of her cabinet of 19 officials in a single day.

The resignations come at a time when Boluarte’s prime minister, who took office last month, is seeking to obtain a vote of support from Congress, as is customary, with the president’s government fearful that the opposition-controlled Legislature , may deny support to the prime minister.

Former vice president, Boluarte came to the Presidency at the end of 2022 as the country’s sixth leader in six years, following the dismissal and arrest of President Pedro Castillo on charges of rebellion and conspiracy.
