The unexpected success of Baby Reindeerthe current most-watched series on Netflix in more than 30 countries, made people from all over the world look for the identity of the people who inspired the plot created and starring Richard Gadd. The research had an effect and a group of fans said they had found the “real life Martha”.

In the series’ plot, the protagonist Donny (Gadd), a bartender who dreams of becoming a comedian, begins to be chased by a stalker named Martha. The story is inspired by the experiences of Gadd, who years ago suffered from the persecution of a woman.

In an interview with DailyMailthe woman identified by fans as the real Martha criticized the series Netflix. The girl, who did not have her name revealed and denied being Gadd’s stalker, also did not spare the creator of Baby Reindeer.

“Gadd is bullying an older woman for fame and fortune. He’s using Baby Reindeer to stalk me now. I’m the victim. He wrote a damn show about me. He has protagonist syndrome.”the woman told the British newspaper.

“I’ve never had a baby toy reindeer, and I haven’t talked to Richard Gadd about a childhood toy either.”he added, citing one of the dialogues between Donny and Martha about the character’s past in the series. “She kind of looks like me after I gained a lot of weight during the pandemic, but I’m actually not really ugly.”

Gadd revealed that a few years ago, he received 41,071 emails, 744 tweets, letters totaling 106 pages, and 350 hours of voicemail messages from an older woman, played by Jessica Gunning in Baby Reindeer. With seven episodes, the series is available in its entirety on Netflix.
