Magnussen received another two points for touching Yuki Tsunoda in the Chinese GP, causing the Japanese to spin.

And, at the Miami GP, on Sunday, he took two others, again for causing a collision, this time with Logan Sargeant.

This brought his total to ten points, with 18 GPs to go at the end of the season, and can only be explained by the frustration of the Dane, who need not have risked so much, especially knowing his situation.

Magnussen has been slower than teammate Hulkenberg, especially in qualifying. Starting further back, he ends up serving as a squire to ensure that the team scores points that will be important later in the season, as Haas does not have the capacity to develop the car at the same level as its direct rivals.

Who would take Magnussen’s place?

The automatic suspension would be for just one race and the most likely replacement would be Oliver Bearman, who will do six free practice sessions this year for Haas and is highly tipped to take one of the team’s places next year. Brazilian Pietro Fittipaldi is also a reserve driver for the team, but is a starter in Indy at the same time and will be available for Haas in races in the second half of the year.
