This Wednesday (24), the Ministry of Communications (MCom) published in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) ordinances authorizing new channels to run the Television Retransmission service in 11 Brazilian cities, reaching the Northeast, Southeast and South regions. With this, more than 260 thousand people will benefit from a greater variety of Digital TV.

Minas Gerais is the state with the largest number of cities covered, where four locations can now start retransmitting the service on digital signal. Dionísio, Guaxupé, Cachoeira de Pajeú and Medina are the municipalities covered, where more than 87 thousand residents will benefit.

Two other locations covered by the program are in Acre: Sena Madureira and Rodrigues Alves, providing access to television broadcasts for the state’s more than 50 thousand residents. The cities of Solânea, in Paraíba, and Itapoá, in Santa Catarina, also benefited from a greater variety of Digital TV content.

MCom explains that to use the service, authorized entities must obtain authorization to use radio frequency from the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) and request licensing of the station.

Authorizations for the RTV service can be granted on a primary basis, where the channel has protection against interference, or on a secondary basis, without protection against interference”, states the folder.

Also according to the ministry, broadcasters authorized to perform Television Retransmission (RTV) services will be able to retransmit signals from commercial or educational TV generating stations.

About Digitaliza Brasil

Established by the Ministry of Communications in May 2021, the program defines guidelines for completing the digitalization process of analogue terrestrial television signals in Brazil. The objective of the initiative is to expand access to the digital terrestrial TV service in locations that recently only had analog signal transmission. When Digitiza Brasil was established, 1,638 municipalities still only watched TV with an analogue signal.
