“An ambush”, says journalist when denouncing director of Record TV

After reporting that he was harassed by Record TV’s Human Resources director, Márcio Santos, journalist Elian Matte filed a new complaint – this time, against Angelica Balbin, from the direction of Roberto Cabrini’s program, Câmera Record. “They set up an ambush,” he said exclusively for the Fábia Oliveira column.

The professional, who was away from in-person work and working from home, after being diagnosed with Burnout Syndrome, an emotional disorder with symptoms of extreme exhaustion, stress and physical exhaustion resulting from excessive work, claimed to have been deceived by the girl, who I actually wanted to fire him secretly.

“She [Angelica Balbin] He called me for a meeting this afternoon, saying that he needed to talk to me about changes at Record, that he couldn’t go deeper into the subject. As I didn’t want to go into the newsroom, due to what I went through there, I proposed that the meeting be in a discreet room, just the two of us. She agreed,” she explained.

Matte continued: “When I got there, she said she was turning me off. A person from HR came with some paperwork, asking me to sign it. But I didn’t sign, because I was told that they couldn’t fire me until July, because I’m undergoing health treatment, precisely because of Record.”

According to Elian, because of Burnout, the channel itself declared the accident at work, after a doctor’s report, on July 21, 2023, lasting until 2024. At the time, he was chased by Márcio and had his genitals photographed by the professional , publicly denouncing Santos, who was indicted by the Civil Police and had his contract with the channel terminated.

Elian Matte believes that the episode was retaliation for making the case public: “The HR woman locked me in the room, put her foot in the door. I had to pull the door hard to get out. They put me in an embarrassing situation, which I have never been through. They set up an ambush. They called me saying it was a meeting, just me and Angelica, and they were supposed to resign.”

And he continued: “Totally different, because I think that, at the very least, after everything I went through there, I should have respect. If I had to resign, it would have to be a more careful process, if possible off TV, over the phone. I don’t know. But not in the way it was.”

Matte also pointed out that the biggest problem was being laid off during a period in which they couldn’t shut him down. “[Não é possível] dismiss a person who is undergoing health treatment, with several medical reports”, he reinforced.

Elian Matte ended the exclusive conversation with this columnist by revealing that they had completed the layoff. “They already turned me off. I have no access to the entire system. So, I see that it was retaliation for the sexual harassment report I made. Unfortunately, a retaliation,” she concluded.

According to the communicator, a police report was registered at the police station, in which he accuses Angelica Balbin of moral harassment. Jeez!

Reporting harassment

Journalist Elian Matte filed a police report against Record TV’s HR director, Márcio Santos. The boy claims to have been a victim of sexual harassment by the professional. The document is dated November 14, 2023.

“I am a scriptwriter for the Cabrini program and, since last year, I have been the target of sexual harassment by Record’s HR director, Márcio Santos. There are insistent requests to leave and, despite my refusals, he continued with conversations on WhatsApp, where he asks the size of my genital organ, where he says that he is unhealthy jealous of me and that he needs medical help”, said an excerpt from the bulletin.

The journalist even said that, afraid of being fired from the company, he deferred to the director for a period. However, the situation would have worsened when Márcio started using Record’s structure to monitor what Elian Matte was doing there.

“Afraid of being fired (even because of the position he holds), I even gave in for a period of time, I was afraid of cutting him off and being let go. But everything got worse when he started using the TV structure to monitor me. Through the newsroom’s security cameras, he brought the camera close to my pants and asked if I had a ‘hard-on’. He did this several times,” he declared.

Still in the police report, Elian Matte reported that Márcio asked him not to go near his car in the parking lot, as he would kidnap him. “He complained that I didn’t reciprocate pornography, that I was just messing around, because I wasn’t willing to go out with him. In one of the messages, he asked me not to go near his car in the parking lot, as he would kidnap me,” he said.

The Record TV journalist also explained that he asked for medical help at a Grupo Record clinic and was diagnosed with burnout. However, his certificate was changed after the doctor was threatened by the HR department.

“I had severe bouts of burnout, I sought help from the doctor at Hadassah (Group Record clinic). She took me away, diagnosed me with burnout, issued a certificate with the disease’s CID. A week later, the doctor sends me messages saying that she was threatened by management and needs to send me a new modified certificate, as the diagnosis of burnout was prohibited. I have changed certificates. There was a breach of medical confidentiality, someone from HR threatened the doctor.”
