Brazil Agency – To mark the 60th anniversary of the 1964 military coup, TV Brasil will show this Tuesday (2) two new attractions with personalities who are references on the topic. Conversations with historian Jair Krischke, in DR with Demoriand with journalist and writer Denise Assis, in Letters Trailwill air at 9:30 pm and 10:30 pm, respectively.

During the special themed edition of DR with Demori, the journalist and presenter chats with Jair Krischke, a human rights expert known as “the torturer hunter”. He created a network of researchers and informants who collaborated to clarify deaths, disappearances and kidnappings that occurred between 1960 and 1980. It is estimated that the historian helped save 2,000 people from various military regimes throughout Latin America.

A Gaucho from Porto Alegre, Jair Krischke is president of the Justice and Human Rights Movement (MDJH) and a recognized activist, with an important role during the military dictatorship in Brazil – a period in which he even founded the MJDH. Furthermore, since the 1960s, he has served at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Then, in Letters Trail, presenter Eliana Alves Cruz conducts the interview with Denise Assis. The guest talks about her experiences at the National Truth and State Truth Commissions in Rio de Janeiro, in which she worked as a researcher and obtained testimonies that helped uncover cases that had not been resolved since redemocratization.

Denise also talks about how her literary work remains intrinsically linked to research on the subject, with emphasis on Immaculate, historical fiction freely based on the trajectory of the nun Maurina Borges da Silveira, the only nun arrested and tortured by the military regime. In the novel, the arrest, torture and subsequent exile function as elements of a mystery: why the Church committed itself to placing Sister Imaculada as quickly as possible on a list of political prisoners to be exchanged for a kidnapped ambassador and, thus, ensuring your departure to Mexico?

O Letters Trail seeks to debate the most current topics discussed by society through literature. With each edition, the program welcomes a different guest. The attraction was created in 2016 by journalist Emília Ferraz, current director of the program that went on air in April 2017. This season, the episodes were recorded at BiblioMaison, the library of the French consulate in Rio de Janeiro.TV Brasil has already produced three seasons of the program and received more than 200 national and foreign guests.
