Rachid (Almir Sater) is one of the most iconic characters in Renascer. After helping José Inocêncio (Marcos Palmeira) in the first chapter, the “Turk” returned to the soap opera and will continue to move the plot forward. In 1993, the character was played by Luís Carlos Arutin (1933-1996). The actor died under tragic circumstances, while saving his family from a fire.
Arutin built a successful career on TV and, in addition to Renascer, he made other soap operas by Benedito Ruy Barbosa, such as Meu Pedacinho de Chão (1981), Os Imigrantes (1981), Sinhá Moça (1986) and Vida Nova (1988).
The author had written a character for him in O Rei do Gado (1996), but a tragedy interrupted the plans. In the early hours of January 8, 1996, a fire broke out in Arutin’s house in Jacarepaguá, Rio de Janeiro.
The fire started after a candle lit by the actor’s son, Camilo Arutin, came into contact with the Styrofoam and the soundproofing carpet in the boy’s room. The highly flammable materials caused the flames to spread very quickly.
Arutin acted quickly to get the family out of there. He asked his wife and children to leave the place and decided to stay to try to put out the fire and rescue furniture and material goods. During this process, the actor inhaled a lot of smoke and lost consciousness. He was rescued, but did not survive. Rachid’s interpreter died at the age of 62, a victim of asphyxiation.
Rachid’s ending in Renascer
In the 1993 version of the soap opera, Rachid had a happy ending. After returning to the Ilhéus region, he met Dona Patroa (Eliane Giardini), and the two became closer.
During the chapters, the woman left Teodoro (Herson Capri), who in the current edition of the soap opera is equivalent to Colonel Egídio (Vladimir Brichta). Boss started using her given name, Iolanda, and got married to Rachid. The two finished the soap opera together and happy.
