Raul Gil announces retirement after more than 60 years on TV

Raul Gil announced his retirement from television during his participation in the Sunday with Huck, where he was honored by Luciano Huck. The program, which was recorded this week, will be shown next Sunday (31/3), on Globo.

In the Sunday attraction, the veteran SBT presenter will explain that he intends to end activities soon. “I will retire in 2024. Unless they don’t let me. But I want to retire this year,” he said, according to the newspaper Extra.

During the recording, Raul Gil also highlighted that the Raul Gil’s program should remain on Silvio Santos’ broadcast schedule until December of this year. The future of the attraction, shown on Saturdays by the veteran, will be at the discretion of the channel’s management. It’s worth remembering that the display was “downgraded” recently.

The veteran’s retirement decision was strongly supported by Luciano Huck, who shared behind-the-scenes footage of the recordings on social media. “It was an honor to be recognized in this way. Thank you for the affection and for the unforgettable moment, I will keep this moment in my soul”, assured the 86-year-old presenter.

Raul Gil’s career

Raul Gil began his television journey in the 1960s, and had impressive stints on Record and Band, in addition to the extinct stations Tupi and Manchete. The presenter made his first appearance on SBT between 1981 and 1985, but returned to the channel in 2010.

Since then, Raul Gil has run an eponymous program on Saturday afternoons, where he features young freshmen and discovers new mini-talents. He also usually pays special tributes to various artists.

This year, “Raul Gil’s Program” was downgraded by Silvio Santos’ broadcaster and started to be shown from noon onwards, ceasing to be broadcast in some places. Many saw this initiative as pressure for the presenter to retire.
