BH subway tender will be released today

The government of Minas Gerais publishes today the public notice for the concession of lines 1 and 2 of the Belo Horizonte subway. The contract will last for 30 years and the auction should take place later this year, as confirmed by Gabriel Ribeiro Fajardo, undersecretary of Transport at the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Mobility (Seinfra) in Minas Gerais.

According to the undersecretary, with the release of the Federal Audit Court (TCU) last month, the procedures for receiving proposals from interested companies and the sequence of other important steps are now starting. He explains that the sale of the Brazilian Urban Transport Company (CBTU) in Minas and the privatization of the subway will be carried out.

With the beginning of the concession rite, privatization is applied to the modal in which the privatization of the MG Investment Privatization Vehicle (VDMG) currently in force will encompass.

The concession will be granted via CBTU, providing for the management, operation, maintenance and expansion of line 1, in addition to the creation of line 2 of the modal, emphasizes the undersecretary of the ministry.

In the context of privatization, the transfer by the Union and CBTU to the State of the immovable property of the aforementioned passenger transport service was also approved in August. For this stage, the structuring of the Secretariat of the Corporate Unit of CBTU in Minas Gerais was carried out. Five integral subsidiary secretariats were also created, in particular the Superintendence of Belo Horizonte. VDMG’s capital stock was established at R$ 2.8 billion, which represents 1.6 million common shares without par values, as stated in the last report analyzed and approved by the TCU.

For the public notice, the minimum price foreseen must be set at R$ 22.81 million. However, as a condition of signing the contract, the winner of the auction will be required to meet certain requirements. Among the actions that must be included in the clauses of the future document, there will be the order to carry out a capital increase of CBTU in the amount of R$ 227 million, in addition to maintaining the jobs for a minimum period of 12 months.

Metro line 1 is 28 km long and has 19 stations. Of them, one is in the city of Contagem, in the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte (RMBH). Another 18 stations are located in the urban perimeter of the capital of Minas Gerais. Line 1 will have a 2 km expansion, construction of the Novo Eldorado station, in Contagem, and renovation of all stations in Belo Horizonte. This configuration should be ready from the fourth year of the concession, that is, in 2025.

In the case of line 2, construction began on the rails, but the work has been paralyzed since 2004, as the approved report highlights. The document informs that the modal corresponds to 6.5 km of the planned total of 11 km. Therefore, seven embarkation and disembarkation stations will be built, highlighting the Nova Switzerland station, in the West region of the Capital, which will integrate with line 1 and the Barreiro station.

Line 2 will meet an old demand arising from the population growth of the capital of Minas Gerais and the supply of public transport. This line will reach one end of Belo Horizonte, which is the Anel Rodoviário and will intersect the avenues Amazonas and Tereza Cristina.
