What changes between Samsung Galaxy S24 and S23 cell phones?

Launched on January 17th as the gateway to Samsung’s premium line, the Galaxy S24 promises improvements to the screen, battery and cameras of its predecessor, Galaxy S23.

Furthermore, another new feature compared to the previous model is the presence of more advanced Artificial Intelligence features, but it has an Exynos processor instead of the Snapdragon, present in the S23 series.

The new Galaxy S24 is a little bigger, with a 6.2-inch screen, compared to 6.1 inches on the previous model; Regarding resolution, there are no significant changes: both deliver Full HD+ definition (2,340 x 1,080 pixels).

Because it has a larger screen, the S24 has less clarity: there are 416 pixels per inch compared to 425 on the 2023 cell phone. Regarding panel technology, Samsung continues to use the Dynamic AMOLED 2X from previous generations with a frequency of 120 Hz. The difference in the new model is the maximum brightness intensity, which can now reach 2,600 nits, against the 1,750 nits found on the S23 screen.

As for the design, there has been little change: both models use Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection and are IP68 certified. The Galaxy S23 measures 146.3 x 70.9 x 7.6 mm and weighs 168 grams, while the S24 is 147 x 70.6 x 7.6 mm and weighs 167 grams.

Regarding colors, the Galaxy S23 is available in black, green, lime, graphite, violet and cream. Its successor features a different palette, with the colors black, gray, violet, cream, blue, green and orange.

The S24, like the S23, features three rear cameras, with just one difference: in the 2024 launch, the ultrawide camera, for wider clicks and panoramic photos, has 12 megapixels (MP), compared to 10 MP for the sensor used in the cell phone. previous. On the front, both cell phones basically have the same selfie camera, with 12 MP.

The two cell phones are very similar in terms of photographic capacity, with optical image stabilization to avoid shaky videos, the ability to capture material in 8K, as well as photography modes for dark environments, among other functions.

However, the new S24 must go further in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). According to Samsung, photo editing should ensure more accurate colors, greater quality and level of detail and sharpness, even when zooming. There is also a Generative Editing feature, capable of inferring and filling in the background of a photo on its own.

Storage and performance

The smartphones have differences in processors: the S24 comes with Exynos 2400, a CPU created by Samsung with ten processing cores and speeds of up to 3.2 GHz, while the S23 comes with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, from Qualcomm, with eight cores. processing and speeds of up to 3.39 GHz.

From the previous generation to the new one, there was an increase in the battery’s gross capacity, which went from 3,900 mAh in the Galaxy S23 to a total of 4,000 mAh in the S24. According to Samsung, the S24 can run for 29 hours straight playing videos until the battery runs out.

Regarding charging, the S24 also operates on 25 Watt technology, just like the S23, allowing the smartphone’s battery to be recharged from 0 to 50% in 30 minutes. Both models support wireless charging and PowerShare, allowing you to transform your cell phone into a type of wireless charger.

System version

The Galaxy S24 arrives with Android 14, a new version of the system, with the latest version of OneUI. With the updates, the previous model also went from Android 13 to 14 and OneUi 6.1, which are available for download.

According to Samsung, the S23 will have updates up to Android 17, while the Galaxy S24 can support seven operating system updates, reaching Android 20.

Both models feature fingerprint reading using a sensor located under the screen, and have antennas, 5G modem, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC connectivity, adding to the connectivity aspect.

The main difference between smartphones is that the S24 offers advanced features for using AI, such as “Circle to Search”, which allows the user to circle any object on the screen to perform a Google search.

On the Samsung website, the Galaxy S24 is available for R$5,399, in the entry-level version, which has 128 GB of storage. The 256 GB model costs approximately R$5,849.

In other online stores, prices vary greatly, with the 256 GB model being found for R$4,864, a similar price to the 128 GB model on the brand’s official website.
