In an interview with the MMORPG website, the producer of Final Fantasy XVI, Naoki Yoshida said that obtaining Leviathan in ‘The Rising Tide’ DLC will give Clive an extra advantage in the game’s final battle, but did not go into details. However, it is said that after Clive defeats Leviathan, it is not the end of the DLC’s story.

Talking about the free version 1.30 update, which will arrive along with the DLC, Square Enix promises that the performance mode will be a little better, but cannot promise 60 fps in very chaotic scenes.

The patch is expected to be the last for PS5. However, if there are optimizations in the development of the PC version, this will be brought to the console as well.

With the Noisy Pixel website, Yoshida commented that he did not want to repeat what happened with Final Fantasy XV in relation to DLCs. See what was said:

It was probably about eight years ago when I started developing a concept for Final Fantasy XVI. It was just me, the main director, Takai-san, and the creative director, Maehiro-san. The three of us talked about what kind of story we wanted to create, what kind of systems we wanted to implement, and how many Eikons versus Eikons battles we wanted to have in the game. And we start with eight elements, so eight battles. But as we went through these discussions, we realized that after looking at the production schedule and costs, we wouldn’t have enough to create all the battles. So we decided to make one of them a lost Eikon, and that became Leviathan, the lost one.

But the plan was for Eikon to always exist. And if we had the opportunity to do DLC after the game’s release, then that would be the story we would tell. With the development of Final Fantasy XVI, the one thing I really wanted to avoid was creating a game that, at launch, wasn’t complete and that you would need to play DLC to understand the main setting. I didn’t want to do that.

We had Final Fantasy XV, which was released before XVI, and they announced four DLCs, but had to cancel two [nota: Yoshida se refere à segunda onda de DLCs]. There were parts of the story that you wouldn’t be able to understand unless you played the DLC. This is something that, from the beginning, we didn’t want to happen in Final Fantasy XVI.

We wanted to have a complete experience with the main game. As we got closer to the launch of the main game, we received feedback from media and players about the launch events and the demo, which was really good. Seeing this, I thought, “Okay, maybe this answer is good. This could be an opportunity for us to explore the idea of doing DLC.” Taking that and talking to the team, we already had this idea for Leviathan that we could bring and incorporate into the DLC.

Final Fantasy XVI is available for PS5, with the second DLC, The Rising Tide, arriving on April 18th.
