AMD said it is working on an update to its Ryzen 5000XT CPUs to address the immense popularity of more affordable AM4 platforms and bring faster Zen3 chips.
The processors were revealed during the AI PC Summit, which is taking place in Beijing (China). However, the specifications of the CPUs have not been released and more details should be released closer to their arrival.
Based on what we’ve seen in the past, AMD upgrades its processors to the “XT” line to bring a higher clock speed – compared to its “non-XT” version. The same can be expected for the Ryzen 5000XT processors, which must be inserted to compete for space with the “mid-range” segment that we see.
The last CPUs in this line were the Ryzen 3000XT – launched in 2019. They were produced to compete directly with Intel Comet Lake processors and served as a way for the manufacturer to develop SKUs to close the cycle of its platform in the past.
In other words, it is possible that AMD is preparing the Ryzen 5000XT to complete the manufacture of AM4-based products. This does not mean that it will stop supporting the platform, just that the next CPUs that will work will be aimed at AM5. However, the company has not officially commented on the case.
AMD improvements to the 5000XT
Even without revealing the specifications of the Ryzen 5000XT processors, AMD in the past updated the Ryzen 3000XT with 100 MHz more clock speed compared to “non-XT” CPUs and a similar change can be expected for the new products.
Another aspect that deserves public attention is that the CPUs were revealed in the “Attacking each price” slide – justifying that the 5000XT will be brought by AMD to be economical options alongside the other processors revealed in recent weeks.
They will bring the Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F, processors without iGPU and with limited availability and also confirmed the arrival of “Strix Point” CPUs for the year 2024. More information should be announced in the future.
