Alpine has announced the hiring of Michael Broadhurst to strengthen its technical team. The experienced British professional will take on the role of head of aerodynamics at the French team from July.

Broadhurst joins Alpine after a successful stint with Red Bull Racing. Since 2021, he has served as the Austrian team’s main aerodynamicist, contributing to Max Verstappen winning the last three drivers’ titles.

With extensive experience in Formula 1, Broadhurst had already played for important teams in the category before arriving at Red Bull. Between 2007 and 2021, he worked for teams such as BMW Sauber, Lotus and McLaren, holding different roles linked to aerodynamics, from CFD engineer to head of the area.

Broadhurst’s signing represents a serious blow for Red Bull. The experienced professional joins David Sanchez, recently announced as Alpine’s new technical director. Sanchez left McLaren to join the French team’s project.

Along with Matt Harman, technical director of performance, engineering and aerodynamics, the trio of Broadhurst, Sanchez and Harman make up Alpine’s new technical core. The expectation is that the arrival of these reinforcements will contribute to the development of the team’s car, and help Alpine fight for better results in the coming seasons.
