Palmeiras faces Liverpool-URU this Thursday (9), in Libertadores 2024 and the game will be very special for Verdão due to the club’s reunion with the legendary Centenário stadium, in Montevideo.

It was on the biggest stage of Uruguayan football that Palmeiras beat Flamengo in the 2021 Libertadores final and won their third title in the biggest continental competition, a title that perhaps entered the list of the club’s three greatest achievements in its almost 110 years.

Since November 27, 2021, every Palmeiras fan has created a loving relationship with Centenário, especially the Alviverdes who went to Uruguay even as a minority, and were extremely important in the grand final against Flamengo.

11 players from Verdão’s current squad were in Montevideo that afternoon (Weverton, Marcos Rocha, Mayke, Gómez, Luan, Piquerez, Gabriel Menino, Zé Rafael, Raphael Veiga, Dudu and Rony).

This will be the first time that Palmeiras returns to the Centenário after the America tri, perhaps even qualifying for the final phase of the Libertadores 2024.

For this to happen, Abel Ferreira’s team needs to beat Liverpool-URU and hope for a stumble (draw or defeat) for San Lorenzo against Independiente Del Valle.
