Brazilian beach volleyball, after failing in the 2021 edition of the Olympics, has everything it needs to return to the podium at the Paris Games, which start in July. With the definition of the team that will represent the country, you can already have an idea of Brazil’s chances. Ana Patrícia and Duda, leaders of the world rankings and owners of two medals in World Championships in the cycle, are favorites for the podium. Still in the women’s category, Bárbara and Carol are among the candidates, but they are not favorites. In the men’s category, Evandro/Arthur and André/George are not favorites, but they are growing at the right time.

With 13 medals in history, Brazil is the country with the most podiums in beach volleyball at the Olympic Games, ahead of the United States, which has 11. The big difference is in the number of gold medals, with seven titles for the Americans compared to three for the Brazilians.

Ana Patrícia and Duda form the most consistent duo in the Olympic cycle. They were world champions in 2022 and silver at last year’s World Cup. If we take the Circuit stages, they are the pair with the most achievements. Last year alone, there were five titles. This year, the pair won in Brasília, but suffered from dengue fever in the Mexico stage, meaning they did not compete.

Bárbara and Carol are, in 2024, better than in 2023. Last year, they did not win any medals in the Elite 16 tournaments, stopping in the quarterfinals several times. When they advanced to the semi, they were fourth. At the World Championship, they were eliminated in the first round of the knockout stage. This year, the duo has evolved a lot. He won the Doha stage title and bronze in Mexico. In Brasília, they were eliminated in the quarterfinals. The duo is in the fight, but they are not favorites for the podium in Paris.

In men’s terms, the Olympic cycle showed that Brazil is a little below the main pairs on the planet. The classified André/George and Arthur/Evandro will arrive with a chance of a medal, but far from favoritism.

Arthur and Evandro go to the final in Brasília and are guaranteed the Olympics

André and George’s great asset is their rapport. We’ve already played together for five seasons. The main result came at the 2022 World Championships, when they achieved bronze. In 2023, they had a year with more lows than highs, and even the Olympic place was at risk. They were champions of the Pan American Games in October. This year, the duo has already evolved a lot, they were runner-up in the Mexico stage, bronze this week in Brasília and are third in the world rankings.

Finally, Evandro will be at the third Olympics of his career, this time alongside Arthur. In 2016, he lost in the round of 16 with Pedro Solberg. In 2021, he also stopped in the round of 16, alongside Bruno Schmidt. To Paris, alongside Arthur, he arrives fighting on the outside for the podium. They are ninth in the world rankings and won, in Brasília, the first title of an Elite 16 tournament.

Therefore, Ana Patrícia and Duda are favorites for gold, with the two American pairs right behind them. Bárbara and Carol come a “shelf” below, but with growth this season. They are on par with the Dutch, Swiss, Canadian and German pairs as candidates for the podium. In the men’s category, André/George is a close candidate for the podium. Behind the favorites Swedes, Norwegians (in which Mol is currently injured) and Czechs. Among the candidates are Americans, Qataris and Dutch. Arthur and Evandro fight outside, along with Italians, Poles and Germans.
