Athletico was among the 5 biggest revenue earners in Brazilian football in the 2023 season. The ranking is based on a survey of Sports Valueafter the publication of the financial statements released by the clubs.

In 2023, Hurricane reached the mark of R$510.7 million in gross revenues. An increase of 38% compared to the previous year, 2022, when the club earned R$370.4 million.

Only four teams had higher revenues than Rubro-Negro (check the complete list at the end of the text). It was the highest revenue recorded by Athletico in history. Previously, the record had been set in the 2020 season: R$328.9 million.

Athletico lags behind competitors in TV budget

Despite being among the 5 clubs with the highest revenues, Athletico was only the sixth club that profited most from broadcasting rights in 2023, recording R$80 million in revenue from this item.

Furacão was ahead only of Ceará (R$ 16 million), Coritiba (R$ 18 million), Goiás (R$ 59 million), América-MG (R$ 73 million), Cuiabá (R$ 75 million) and Bahia (R$77 million).

On the other hand, Flamengo (R$422 million), Corinthians (R$307 million) and Palmeiras (R$290 million) had the most revenue from broadcasts.

Athletico stands out among selling clubs in the country

On the other hand, Athletico was the third club that profited most from player sales in 2023, boosting its finances mainly with the transfer of Vitor Roque to Barcelona.

In total, Furacão was the third Brazilian club that profited most from athlete negotiations, with a figure of R$241 million. Only Corinthians, with R$251 million, and Flamengo, with R$303 million, were ahead of Rubro-Negro in this sense.

Athletico: revenue from marketing, members and box office

Athletico was still the 5th club that made the most profit from marketing (R$95 million), the 9th that raised the most revenue from fan members (R$45 million) and the 5th club that made the most money from box office and stadium operation ( R$50 million).

Highlight is the revenue from marketing – which involves sponsorships, brand licensing and product sales – which saw significant growth at the club. Furacão totaled R$39 million in sponsorships and R$56 million in licensing and royalties.

Athletico and football costs

On the other hand, Athletico was only the 11th club that had the most football costs last season, with expenses of around R$326.6 million, behind teams like Vasco da Gama (R$342.2 million) and RB Bragantino (R$405.7 million). Despite this, football spending in 2023 was the highest in Furacão’s history.
