Cruzeiro needs to win to try to get closer to Universidad de Quito, which occupies first place in the group. In the Copa Conmebol Sudamericana, only the leader advances to the round of 16, while the second-placed team in each group will compete in the repechage against the third-placed teams in the Libertadores.

Alianza is second to last in the Colombian Championship and comes from two defeats this season (one in Conmebol Sul-Americana and another in the national championship). The team arrives with the illusion of seeking their first victory in the tournament and still having a real chance of qualifying in the tournament. If they lose, the chances of a place in first place will close, while reaching the playoffs will be virtually exhausted.

The Cruzeiro coach may present changes to the team’s offensive format. The Alianza coach must form a different team from the one that lost to Atlético Bucaramanga, in the Colombian Championship. On the left flank, there is a chance for Saldaña to start playing, with Ospina leaving, and Franco being placed in defense. In the middle, Manjarrés should take Blanco’s place, while Mayer Gil could start playing in attack.
