Sainz criticizes stewards at Miami race

-

Carlos Sainz was not at all satisfied with the penalties distributed by the FIA after the Formula 1 Miami GP. For the Spaniard, the stewards were lenient with the drivers involved in incidents during the race.

Sainz felt harmed by the lack of punishment for touches with Oscar Piastri. Interestingly, the Spaniard didn’t even need to testify to the stewards about any of these incidents. During the race, Sainz complained that Piastri left the track to gain an advantage, demanding the position be returned. The FIA, however, considered otherwise, allowing the Australian to remain ahead.

Incidents with other drivers ended up disrupting his race, according to Sainz: “Today everyone drove very aggressively. Right at the start, Checo (Sergio Perez)… as they would say in the old days with Seb (Sebastian Vettel), ‘he came like a torpedo’ and almost took us out, making me lose two positions. From then on, I was pretty fast. I took care of the tires and avoided the safety car for a lap, which could have given me the victory. Afterwards, I was frustrated with Oscar, because he clearly forced me off the track, making me lose time with Charles (Leclerc) and Max (Verstappen). As I realized that the stewards were not being harsh with the punishments, I had to be aggressive to overcome the situation,” Sainz told Sky Sports.

At the end of the race, Sainz radioed to his team that he was having problems with the car, a consequence, according to him, of the collisions with Piastri. “Yes, we had contact twice today. One because of his late braking, which pushed me off the track, and then me with my late braking, which blocked the rear tires and made me lose the rear. I don’t know how much damage I suffered, but I was very fast at the end, with the same pace as Lando (Norris), so I hope it wasn’t anything serious”, concluded the Spaniard.
