PC Oliveira calls for a movement to professionalize arbitration; Botafogo suggested a debate to the STJD and was ignored in less than 24 hours

Amid yet another flood of complaints and controversies about the arbitration at the Brazilian championshipcaptained by Flamengo this time, commentator and former referee Paulo Cesar de Oliveira made an appeal on “Troca de Passes”, on SporTV, this Saturday (4/5), for there to be a movement towards the professionalization of the role.

– Every round there are complaints about refereeing, normally when the team feels harmed, but I think there should be a movement not only from the CBF, but from all clubs, in order to demand the professionalization of arbitration. It was promised this year that the referees would concentrate before every game and it is not actually happening that way, because the referee needs to train on the playing field, practice what he is going to do on the weekend, like a professional athlete does – stated PC Oliveira.

– He needs to be well paid, have financial security, health care, physical, technical and mental preparation, recovery after the game… There is no fixed salary. When it blows badly and goes into the refrigerator, the entire period remains without any type of remuneration. There will always be controversy, but I think there also needs to be a debate about professionalization, thinking about effective work to improve referee conditions. He will continue to make mistakes and successes, it is part of the game, but he will certainly be better prepared – he added.

Program presenter, Camila Carelli He also sent a message to the leaders.

– When we saw managers only complain when they were harmed, we also had doubts about whether they wanted fairer football, or whether they just wanted to benefit. Naturally, we need to have a much greater discussion to improve the level of arbitration – he said.

Botafogo suggested changes to the STJD and was ignored

PC Oliveira and Camila Carelli, however, as well as practically all the specialized media, did not remember what Botafogo itself had already done on the subject. On December 6th of last year, Glorioso suggested to the STJD that the body intervene in the preparation of proposals and adoption of effective measures aimed at improving arbitration.

Among the five points addressed by Botafogo were regulation of the profession of professional football referee, institutional independence of the entity that regulates arbitration, creation of rankings and transparency in scales. The STJD filed the black and white club’s request in less than 24 hours.

In testimony to the CPI for the Manipulation of Games and Sports Betting in the Federal Senate, John Textor, owner of SAF do Botafogo, also proposed to finance a modern camera system in Brazilian stadiums to implement automatic VAR and also assist in the decisions of match referees. video.

Remember the ideas suggested by Botafogo to the STJD about arbitration:

1 – Regulation of the profession of professional football referee;

2 – Institutional independence between the entity that regulates professional football arbitration and the organizing entity of the respective competition;

3 – Technical-scientific monitoring of moves and indicators of men’s professional football matches, with the hiring of independent audit companies, specialized in the analysis of sports data;

4 – Creation of a ranking of referees based on errors made throughout the championship and, based on this ranking, the adoption of promotion and demotion criteria for referees;

5 – Transparency in the selection of referees for professional football matches; in addition to other measures that may be indicated.
