Despite securing second and third places on the starting grid for the Formula 1 Miami GP, Ferrari did not hide its frustration. Italian team boss Fred Vasseur believes pole position was possible, but admits the Scuderia did not exploit its full potential in the qualifying session.

“We’re a little frustrated because I think we weren’t able to show everything we had in qualifying,” Vasserur told Viaplay. “In any case, starting in P2 and P3 is a good result. It was very difficult to manage the situation. With soft tires you are really on the limit and it’s easy to make mistakes. In the last training session, when everyone pushed a little harder, the limit was often exceeded.”

Despite the critical tone, Vasseur sees positive points. Ferrari is confident in the pace demonstrated in the Sprint race, where it scored 11 points, but was unable to advance in position. The French leader points out a specific area for improvement.

“We were maybe a tenth behind Max (Verstappen), but overall, it was under control. Tomorrow we need to go one step further. We have to try to stay close to him to have DRS from the start, as it is very powerful, and Max was very strong in the first laps in the morning. Perhaps this is the point where we need to evolve”, concluded Vasseur.
